The Fierce Urgency of Now

Here’s a little something I wrote over on the DailyKos on September 22, 2021.

When I wrote it (well, October 22, 2021) atmospheric CO2 was 415.06 ppm.

October 29, 2024, atmospheric CO2 was 442.58 ppm. (Follow along here, if you don’t already.)

I do not claim to have any “reach” or “clout.” I am not an influencer. I am a tiny tiny TINY voice, among many other voices, clamoring for some fucking action from government, some sacrifice from rich fuckwads with carbon footprints that dwarf my own, and some actual reporting from the servile scribes in the legacy media.

We’ve got to lower emissions. And, given that we are already pretty fucked based on the science of what’s already baked in, we need HELP. We need our governments to not just cut emissions - we need them to take care of us. We need them to take control, be the grownups, spend our tax dollars on things that will actually save livelihoods, and personal property, and LIVES.

There are plenty of good ideas. I plan to share them in the coming days. Because it is far more useful to plan for concrete actions that people can take than it is to moan about how terrible the situation has become.

Mind you, pointing out how terrible the situation has become is not nothing - but I think most people who are inclined to worry, and to take action, want information on what to do that will actually be USEFUL.
