The Earth Is Past Safe Limits for Humans
Announcing ONE YEAR OLD breaking news, from the Financial Times.
Quick quote follows. You can read the rest at the link above. I can’t share more here, for fear of violating the FT’s terms.
The earth is already past safe limits for humans as temperature rise, water system disruption and destruction of natural habitats have reached boundaries, a study by a group of the world’s foremost scientists has found.
The research, published in the journal Nature on Wednesday, identified eight earth system boundaries that included climate, biodiversity, water, natural ecosystems, land use and the effect of fertilisers and aerosols.
Human activities had pushed seven of these boundaries beyond their “safe and just limit” into risk zones that indicate the threat to planetary and human health, it said.
THIS IS NOT A DRILL.
Seriously - that report was published a YEAR AGO.
You may say we have bigger fish to fry - like saving democracy here in the USA. And okay, that is mission one until November. But at that point? At that point there is no excuse to not turn on our afterburners and get at it and DEMAND action.
The best time to act was fifty years ago - when, make no mistake, the boffins and the captains of industry knew what was cookin’ (the oceans and atmosphere ;-)
And the second best time to act?! THE MOMENT WE ELECT PRESIDENT HARRIS.
Where are we all? What are we doing? Driving less, recycling (when convenient) and eating fewer burgers isn’t cutting it. Voting blue isn’t (so far) doing a thing to actually lower emissions — or, frankly, to preserve the environment, which continues to be poisoned, raped, pillaged, and whittled away with cuts small and large every single day.
Asking did not work.
Voting did not work.
Marching did not work.
Emissions keep going up and our home habitat continues rapidly to degrade.
OUR LEADERS HAVE FAILED US.
Will we now fail ourselves, by not taking a final stand against our impending extinction???
